Signing Up and Logging In: A How-To Guide

This guide covers getting into Chalk and Chart: creating your account, choosing a plan, signing in day to day, and resetting your password if you forget it.

Creating your account

1. Go to the Chalk and Chart site and click Sign in, then choose Create an account (or open the sign-up page directly).

2. Fill in the three fields:

   Field	What to enter
   Family name	What you would like your family called in the app, for example "The Carver Family." You can change it later on the Family page.
   Email	The email address you will sign in with.
   Password	A password of at least 12 characters. Use the eye icon at the right of the box to show or hide what you type.

3. Click Create account. The button reads "Creating..." while it works.

4. You are signed in automatically and taken to your account, where you choose a plan next.

Tip: A longer password (a short phrase you will remember) is both stronger and easier to type than a short, complicated one.

Choosing a plan and your free trial

Right after sign-up you land on your account settings to pick a plan. Chalk and Chart starts you with a free trial so you can explore everything before you decide, and no card is required to begin. When you are ready, choose Primer or Scholar and a billing option (monthly, yearly, or a one-time lifetime membership). You can change or cancel your plan from the Settings page at any time.

Signing in

Once you have an account, sign in whenever you come back:

1. Click Sign in.
2. Enter your Email and Password.
3. Click Sign in.

Use the eye icon next to the password box to reveal what you have typed if you want to check it.

First sign-in with a temporary password

If your account was set up with a temporary password, the app asks you to set a new password before you continue. Choose a new password (again, at least 12 characters) and click Set password and continue. After that, you sign in normally with your new password.

Resetting a forgotten password

If you cannot remember your password:

1. On the sign-in page, click Forgot password.
2. Enter your account email and submit. If an account exists for that address, we email a verification code to it.
3. Check your email for the code, then enter the code along with a new password.
4. Submit to reset it. You can now sign in with the new password.

Note: The code is sent to your email, so make sure you can reach that inbox. If it does not arrive within a few minutes, check your spam folder and confirm you used the right address.

Students logging in

Children sign in separately with their own student logins, which you create and manage on the Family page. A student login shows only that child's own work and is safe for them to use. For how to set one up and what a student sees, read the Student Login guide.

Staying signed in and signing out

Your session stays active on your device between visits, so you usually will not need to sign in every time. To sign out, use the account or menu option in the app when you want to end your session (for example, on a shared computer).
