The Dashboard: A How-To Guide

The Dashboard is your home page, the first thing you see when you sign in. It gives you an at-a-glance summary of your homeschool: your school-year dates, what is scheduled this week, outstanding assignments, instructional time, recent grades, and (if you use them) upcoming reminders. Each card links to the full page for that area.

Opening the Dashboard

The Dashboard is your landing page. To return to it any time, click the Chalk and Chart logo, or click Dashboard at the top of the left menu (on a phone, tap Dashboard in the bottom bar). It is mostly a read-only summary that links to the full pages, with two things you can do right here: enter a grade for a completed lesson (the Needs grading card) and rearrange the cards to suit you.

Year at a Glance

At the top of the Dashboard, next to your family name, is a Year at a glance link.

Click it to open a printable, one-page poster of your whole school year: your dates, goals, weekly schedule, curriculum, breaks, and monthly read-alouds, all pulled together automatically. From there you can print it or save it as a PDF. See the Year at a Glance guide for the details.

School-year summary

If you have set a school start date on the Family page, the top strip shows your School start date and, once you have also set a days-per-week and a yearly days goal, your Projected end date (the same projection the Calendar uses).

This week

A seven-day view (Sunday through Saturday) of the week containing today, with today's column highlighted. Each day lists its calendar activities, including weekly recurring ones, with start times. Use Calendar in the corner to open the full Calendar.

If nothing is scheduled, you will see "No activities scheduled this week."

Reminders

If you have turned on the Reminders optional page (a Scholar feature), a Reminders card shows your next few upcoming reminders with their dates. When you have something upcoming, the card gently glows to draw your eye. Use Reminders in the corner to open the full page.

This card only appears when the Reminders page is enabled in Settings. When nothing is coming up, it shows "Nothing upcoming."

Assignments

The number in the heading is how many lessons are still incomplete. Outstanding lessons are grouped by student, each showing the lesson, its subject, and a date. If a due date is set, you see "due" followed by that date (for example, "due Jul 7, 2026"); otherwise the lesson's scheduled date is shown. Use Curriculum in the corner to open the full Curriculum, where you mark lessons complete.

When everything is done, you will see "Nothing outstanding. All lessons are complete."

Needs grading

Two kinds of work land in the Needs grading card, grouped by student. This card sits next to your other cards, glows to catch your eye, and only shows when something is waiting.

• A completed lesson with no grade yet, whether you marked it complete on the Curriculum page or a student checked it off from their own login.
• A worksheet a student submitted from their Submit an Assignment card (a Book Review or a Field Trip Journal). Each shows the student and what they turned in, with a Review button.

To grade a lesson without leaving the Dashboard, type the grade in the box on that lesson's row (for a 1 to 4 student, pick from the dropdown) and click Save. That records a real grade for the student (so it shows on the Grades page under All grades, counts toward the Progress by subject averages, and can be included in the Portfolio) and clears the lesson from the list. For a submitted worksheet, click Review to read what the student wrote and, optionally, record a grade for it against a subject. You can also click Curriculum in the corner to open the full page.

Instructional time

A per-student summary of hours logged and days attended, each shown against your yearly goals as a percentage (when goals are set on the Family page). Use Details to open the full Instructional Time page.

Recent grades

Your six most recent grades, each showing the student's color dot, the title, student, subject, and the grade (a percentage or a 1 to 4 label, depending on that student's scale). Use Grades in the corner to open the full Grades page. Before you have entered any grades, it shows "No grades recorded yet."

Rearranging your cards

The This week strip stays pinned across the top, and the cards below it (Assignments, Needs grading, Recent grades, Reminders, and Instructional time) can be arranged in whatever order you like.

1. Tick Reorder cards at the top of the Dashboard.
2. Rearrange them:
   • On a computer: drag a card and drop it where you want it.
   • On a phone or tablet: each card shows small ◀ and ▶ arrows in reorder mode; tap them to move a card left or right (dragging is not available on touch screens).
3. Tick Save layout when you are happy.

Your layout is saved to your account, so it looks the same on every device you sign in on. Untick Reorder cards without saving to discard the changes.
